ISLAMABAD, JAN. 23. With an eye on the upcoming home series against India, the Pakistan Cricket Board extended the tenure of skipper Inzamam ul-Haq by another year today. ``Inzamam would be captain for the 2004 calendar,'' PCB chief, Shaharyar Khan, said in a press statement here. ``It is a well thought decision taken in consultation with chief executive, Rameez Raja, and chairman of selectors, Wasim Bari. Inzamam led the team well in New Zealand and is showing tremendous improvement in his leadership qualities. He enjoys great respect among his team members,'' Shaharyar said. ``The PCB is optimistic that under his leadership, the Pakistan cricket team will continue to make progress.'' The decision is considered crucial as Pakistan is slated to take on India in a three-Test and five-match one-day international series between March and April, besides other important engagements, including the ICC Champions Trophy in England. Inzamam said he was ``honoured'' by the PCB decision. ``I am honoured to have been awarded the job to lead Pakistan this year. My recent experiences have given me valuable insight into the characteristics to be a successful leader,'' he said in a statement. ``To me every series this year will be equally important, but naturally there will be more focus on the forthcoming series against India which I am sure will produce the highest quality of cricket.''
