Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, JAN. 24. The Pondicherry CPI (ML) has decided to contest the Lok Sabha poll from Pondicherry, according to a communication from the secretary, S. Balasubramanian. The party also appealed to the Administration to reconsider the modalities adopted in fixing property tax. Assesses should be let to pay tax on instalment basis. There should be strict adherence to eight-hour work schedule in private industrial units. Presently workers were engaged for nearly twelve hours and wages were only a pittance for the quantum of work done. There should be sustained efforts on the part of the Government to procure Cauvery water for Karaikal region.
