Two pilgrims injured in Tirumala
By Our Staff Reporter
TIRUMALA,
JAN. 24.
Two pilgrims, including a woman, were injured at the doli mandapam road (DMS Road) on Saturday when rock-blasting undertaken by a contractor caused stones to fly. The work was in progress on the rear side of the road for construction of a new shopping complex.
Pilgrims ran helter-skelter at the loud noise, followed by flying of pieces of rock and mud. The workers at the site immediately cleared the debris and stopped the work.
It may be mentioned that the TTD has given instructions to its contractors not to use high-intensity blasting-related material and to take utmost care to cover the rock while undertaking the operation in view of the safety of pilgrims, besides minimising the shattering effect.
