Arjun Singh's stress on booth-level politics

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JAN.24. The senior Congress leader, Arjun Singh, today commended the initiative by the Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress to organise a training programme for all the youth wing presidents from all over the country. He urged the youth workers to work with full vigour at the grassroot level to ensure that the Congress emerges strong and victorious.

Speaking at the concluding day of the six-day camp organised under the leadership of the Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress president, Rajesh Lilothia, the former Union Minister said the need of the hour was that Congress workers understood the importance of booth- level politics and fanned out to ensure that things were handled properly at this level. This would ensure that the Congress not only gets strengthened but also emerges victorious in the coming Lok Sabha and other electoral battles. Speaking on the occasion, the AICC general secretary, Mukul Wasnik, said party workers were ready to fan out and expose the false propaganda being unleashed by the BJP and its allies about the prevalence of "feel-good factor'' in the country. He said when farmers were suffering due to lower returns, the poor were being subjected to worst- ever conditions and those below the poverty line crying for a proper meal, the BJP-led Government was claiming that India was shining. He said there were no employment opportunities for the poor, the terrorists were having a free run in the country, and there was this talk of things going very smoothly in the country. A wrong and false impression was being created by the Vajpayee Government, he said and urged young workers in the party to get across this message to the common man.

Mr. Lilothia said youth workers would give a befitting reply to the evil designs of the NDA Government and the BJP. He said the best achievement of the BJP-led Government was the unprecedented growth witnessed in corruption at higher levels. The Sangh Parivar and the BJP were bent upon dividing the country and destroying the secular fabric but the Congress would not allow this to happen and under the leadership of the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, it would defeat the evil designs of communal forces. He said the people of the country were waiting to teach the BJP-led Government a lesson and install Ms. Gandhi as the Prime Minister of the country. In fact, the training camp was a first of its kind of exercise taken by the youth organisation that saw the participation and interaction by senior AICC leaders like Mr. Arjun Singh, Mr. Wasnik, Oscar Fernandes and Major Dalbir Singh.
