NEW DELHI, JAN. 24. A person, who along with his accomplices had allegedly robbed the staff of a Police Control Room van of their arms and ammunition at Uttam Nagar in West Delhi in November last year, was arrested at Bhajanpura in North-East Delhi on Friday. A pistol of Chinese make and five live cartridges were recovered from him. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, North-East Delhi, Pravir Ranjan, the district's Special Staff received a tip-off that the main accused in the case, in which some persons had attacked a PCR van team near Mohan Garden at Uttam Nagar on last November 24 and robbed them of arms and ammunitions, would come to Bhajanpura in a Maruti car to commit some crime. Accordingly, Special Staff sleuths were deployed in the area and were asked to be on the look-out for the vehicle of the same description. The vehicle was spotted around 8-45 a.m. The police tried to stop the vehicle, upon which the driver, later identified as Uttam Singh, sped and ended up hitting the divider. The suspect came out of the car and opened fire at the police party, which also retaliated and soon overpowered him. Uttam Singh fired five rounds, while the police fired another five during the encounter. During interrogation, Uttam confessed to his involvement in the Uttam Nagar case. He disclosed that he along with his accomplices, Joginder Singh, Bulkesh, Rajiv and Krishan Lal had attacked the PCR van staff. The police seized a Chinese pistol from his possession.
