BANGALORE,
JAN. 22.
He said this while releasing Dr. Chatterjee's book, Thousand Streams: A Personal History, published by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here on Saturday.
Prof. Rao described the book as delightful reading which made a sensitive portrayal of life and the problems of people whom the author encountered in her life. "It is the work of an individual who has looked at life with a humane heart and understanding mind," he said. He had known the author and her family for 65 years. The family had contributed to the intellectual and scientific progress of the country.
Hemalatha Mahishi, advocate, spoke highly of Dr. Chatterjee's constant quest for knowledge, sharp memory, and immense vigour even at the age of 82. Her achievements as a scientist par excellence, at a time when not many women were being educated, were a model for women today.
Dr. Rajeshwari said her foray into writing about her life experiences started when she enrolled for an English writing course for senior citizens at the University of Rhino, U.S. when she was visiting her daughter in that country.
Dr. Chatterjee, an electrical communications engineer, has taught at the Indian Institute of Science. She has written many books on microwave engineering.
Mathoor Krishnamurti, Executive Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, was present.
