Letters to the Editor
Sir, The recently concluded World Social Forum once again brought into focus the evil of globalisation and the neo-imperialistic designs of the United States. I am reminded of what Teddy Roosevelt said of America: "The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, safety first instead of duty first, a love of soft living and the get-rich-quick theory of life. This country will not be a permanently good place for any of us to live unless it is a good place for all of us to live."
Rahul Kumar,
Sir, I refer to the letters of Vikram Vasu (Jan. 20) and Rajendra Gholap (Jan. 22) in which they have referred to Arundhati Roy's claim that 80,000 people have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir since 1989, and wondered how many of them were terrorists. It is a fact that the 13-year-old turmoil in Kashmir has resulted in the killing of 80,000 innocent civilians, mostly by security forces. By implying that many of them were terrorists is adding insult to injury. One who suffers knows the pain. The killing of innocent people in the name of terrorism cannot be justified.
Iram Shah,
