KARUR, JAN. 25 . Women should be aware of their legal rights, the Collector, P. Annamalai, has said. He was speaking after inaugurating an exhibition organised to mark the `National Humanism Week' here on Friday. The Collector said the Constitution guaranteed equal rights for all citizens, and women should be aware of laws enacted to protect their rights. The sex-based discrimination had come to stay in the country, owing to diverse social practices and the caste-based differences. The objective of the `National Humanism Week' was to create an awareness of the equality of rights among the people, especially women. The Collector regretted that illiteracy was one of the factors responsible for various social evils. Education was the only solution for promoting equality, human values and fraternity among the people. The District Education Officer, Pazhani, said students of the higher secondary school at Punnam, the Adi Dravida Higher Secondary Schools at Sanapiratti and Chinnamanaickanpatti evinced a keen interest in preparing the exhibits on human values.
