HYDERABAD, JAN. 25. `House boating,' a new concept in recreation, will be launched by the A.P. Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC). Six boats are being readied under the Konaseema Resort project for ferrying people from Ravulapuram downstream to Shivakodi Lanka island. Each boat will accommodate two couples. They can stay for 24 to 48 hours in the boat and camp at the island. "The Rs. 1.5-crore project will be commissioned during May," according to the Tourism Minister, T. Srinivas Yadav. He was speaking to presspersons after doing a bit of parasailing on Sunday aboard the Bhageerathi boat at Hussainsagar. He said a boating unit would be launched at Mylavaram in Cuddapah district on January 28. More water fleet units were proposed at Chinna Cheruvu in Kurnool district, Somasila and Rishikonda beach. District Tourism Promotion Councils were proposed with a view to spreading the tourism- related activity. T.V.N. Rao, executive director, APTDC, said an air-conditioned cruiser, Bodhisiri, would be commissioned at the Krishna river by February-end. A twin deck cruiser, Bodhisiri, would be utilised as a conference hall with restaurant facility. Water sport decks were planned to be created at Nagarjunasagar for launch of water sports like surfing, sail boats, hobicat, tobogun, canoeing and kayaking. Besides, it was proposed to introduce glass bottom boats at Nagarjunasagar and Vijayawada for experiencing the river species, Mr. Rao said. Response to parasailing at Hyderabad and Vijaywada was good. It was an absolutely safe sport. There was no untoward incident so far, he said.
