`Minority status a creation of British Raj'

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM, JAN. 25. The `sar sangha chalak' of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), K.S. Sudarsan, has said that minority status on the basis of religion is a creation of the British Raj to keep the nation divided.

Addressing a massive gathering of `swayamsevaks' here this evening, he said Christians and Muslims of this country were Hindus and hence it was wrong to bestow them with minority status. Conversion did not qualify one to gain minority status. If at all there were minorities in this country they were the members of the Parsi and Jewish communities who had migrated to Bharat and settled. He said that those sections that claim to be minorities were Hindus and if they volunteer to recognise that Hindutva was nationalism, many of the inter-religious ill feelings would come to an end. He said that such a recognition would even bring the curtains down on the Ram Janmabhoomi issue.

The `sar sangha chalak' said that it was imperative that temples came up at Ram Janmabhoomi, Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi and at Kasi. If Christians and Muslims began to recognise themselves as Hindus, it would be help the nation develop at a faster pace.

He said that there were some welcome factors in this regard, especially in Kerala, and cited the `vidyarambham' ritual organised by a church during the last Vijaya Dashmi day as an instance in this connection.
