KOCHI, JAN. 25. The Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, P.C. Thomas, has said that a decision has been taken to transfer more pending cases to fast track courts. Speaking at the Kerala Civil Judicial Staff Organisation (KCJSO) State conference here today, the Minister said the Union Government would give the final clearance for setting up 11 fast track courts in Kerala at a meeting to be convened on January 28. Though the Union Government had mooted the idea of setting up more fast track courts, the State Government was initially reluctant on the ground that the latter would have to incur recurring expenses, he said. Mr. Thomas said his Ministry had also suggested the setting up of five more family courts in the State. The Ministry had offered Rs.10 lakhs each for initial expenses and Rs.5 lakhs for recurring expenses.
