Pondy leaders meet AICC emissaries

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, JAN. 25. The Pondicherry Congress today impressed upon Manmohan Singh and Kamal Nath, All-India Congress Committee emissaries from New Delhi, the need for the party to contest the Lok Sabha seat from the Union Territory. The DMK had allotted the Pondicherry seat to another alliance partner, the Pattali Makkal Katchi.

The Pondicherry Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy and the Pradesh Congress Committee president, V. Narayanasamy, met the AICC representatives at the Chennai airport and requested them to talk to the DMK.

Talking to The Hindu, Mr. Narayanasamy said the Congress had won the seat nine times and had 19 members in the 30-member Assembly. The PMK did not have even a single member in the Assembly. The AICC leaders told the Pondicherry leaders that the matter would be discussed further.
