Ayurvedic centre inaugurated

NEW DELHI JAN. 25. An Ayurvedic centre with 10-bedded facility providing for management of chronic diseases through "Panchkarma" therapy was today inaugurated at the Army Base Hospital in Delhi Cantonment.

The establishment of the new centre at the super-speciality hospital is a pioneering step to integrate Ayurvedic and modern allopathic treatment in the armed forces. On the success of this unique experiment, more Ayurvedic units will be set up in other army hospitals in the country.

The Defence Secretary, Ajay Prasad, inaugurated the Ayurvedic centre in presence of the Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services, Lt. Gen. B N Shahi; the Advisor Ayurveda in the Health and Family Welfare Ministry, S K Sharma, and other senior Army officers.

Valedictory function

NEW DELHI JAN.25. The Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Sekhawat would address the valedictory ceremony of "Sangeet Natak Academy", on the occasion of its "Goldern Jubilee Year" at Kamani Auditorium here on January 27.

The Union Tourism and Culture Minister, Jagmohan and the Akademi Chairman, Sonal Mansingh would be the chief guests. On this occasion, an audio-visual presentation incorporating rare glimpses from the Academy archives would be screened.

Sanskrit certificate course

NEW DELHI JAN. 25. To facilitate the interest of Sanskrit learning people, a three months certificate course is being conducted from January 26 at Sri Vaikuntanathji Mandir in Ber Sarai.

The function will be inaugurated by the joint secretary in Finance Commission, Ramanujam, and will be presided over by president of the temple, V. Lakshmi Kumaran, according to a press release issued by the temple.

Book released

NEW DELHI JAN. 25. An "interesting and informative'' book, "Emotional Intelligence - The Indian Scenario'', authored by Vinod Kumar Shanwal of the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IBHAS), Delhi, was released by the Founder Director of the Institute, S.D. Sharma, during a round-table discussion on Emotional Intelligence held at India International Centre yesterday.

The discussion at the round-table was moderated by the Head of the Department of Psychiatry at IBHAS, Nimesh G. Desai. Among the speakers, clinical psychologist, Manju Mehta of AIIMS, related her observations on enhancing emotional quotient in children by depicting a couple of case studies on control of impulses, while Neera Pant, a Senior Reader in Gargi College gave a vivid picture of the varied parameters of emotional intelligence vis-a-vis the academic research abroad and the Indian scenario.

Yet another speaker, Arvind Mishra, Senior Lecturer of Psychology at Jamia Millia Islamia, was critical of the western hegemony in human behavioural sciences and wished that these were evaluated in the right perspective and not eulogised blindly.

School cultural event

NEW DELHI JAN.25. Ahlcon International School celebrated music and dance extravaganza "Vasantutsav", in which many city schools participated in the campus over the week-end. Famous danseuse, Shovana Narayan kicked off this two-day long celebration by lighting the traditional lamp.

"It is my love for children that has compelled me to be a part of this celebration,' she said in her inaugural address. The various categories of events held on the occasion include patriotic choir songs, devotional solo, tabla guitar, folk group dance and solo classical dance.
