Temperature

MADURAI, JAN. 25 . The city recorded a maximum temperature of 34 degree Celsius and a minimum of 22.7 degree Celsius.

Water level

The level in the Periyar dam was 111.4 feet with an inflow of 60 cusecs and a discharge of 250 cusecs.

The level in the Vaigai Dam stood at 36.2 feet with no inflow and a discharge of 825 cusecs.

Constable, two others held

Three persons, including a police constable, were arrested today on the charges of robbery and criminal trespass.

The police said Jesudas Kalyanam, an armed reserve police constable, and his friends, Nagappa and Ibrahim, demanded money from Satish Kumar, an engineering graduate of Jamburapuram, this morning.

When he refused, they snatched his mobile phone at knifepoint.

Based on a complaint filed by Satish Kumar, the Tallakulam police registered cases under Sections 452 (criminal trespass), 392 (robbery) and 397 (possession of weapons) of the IPC.

They were remanded to judicial custody.

Prayer for

fire victims

A special mass prayer was organised at the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple today for the speedy recovery of those injured in Thursday's fire accident at a marriage hall in Srirangam.

Pithukuli Murugadass, popular singer, who came to the temple to have darshan, inaugurated the prayer and sang a few devotional songs.

The names and birth stars of 28 persons, who sustained burns and undergoing treatment, were read out at the end of the prayer.

Prasadams would be sent to the hospitals where they have been admitted.

P. Bhaskaran, Joint Commissioner, HR& CE, and Executive Officer of the temple, was among the 60 devotees who took part in the prayer.
