MANGALORE, JAN. 25. The former Chief Minister, M. Veerappa Moily, today criticised the former Director-General of Police, H.T. Sangliana's joining the BJP and said that Mr. Sangliana had been nursing political ambitions even while he was in service. Speaking at a meeting of Congress workers of Mangalore North Block here, Mr. Moily said that Mr. Sangliana had approached him in 1999 with a wish to contest elections to the Lok Sabha on the Congress ticket. But when told that he had to quit police service, Mr. Sangliana changed his mind and waited till he retired, Mr. Moily claimed. The former Chief Minister alleged that Mr. Sangliana when he was named to head the anti-Veerappan operations found staying in the jungles tough and had to return.
