Trains to be diverted near Coimbatore

By Our Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE, JAN. 25 . In view of the opening of the second rail line between Coimbatore Junction and Coimbatore North, the non-interlocking work will commence on January 27, and will go on till February 3.

To facilitate speedy execution, train services between the two stations would be regulated during this period. The opening of the second line is expected to reduce the overall time of detention of trains at these stations by eight to ten minutes.

The trains need not stop at either of these stations anymore for crossing. More time could be saved if the second phase of the doubling of the line between Coimbatore North Station and Irugur Station is completed.

During the non-interlocking work to be taken up the next eight days, the train traffic will not be handled by operating the automatic signals. Hence, it is expected that the trains passing through the section where the work is to take place will witness a delay of 20 to 25 minutes.

There will be total closure of traffic between the Coimbatore Junction and the Coimbatore North Station between 9 a.m. and 12 noon during these eight days.

According to a release from the Southern Railway, the following trains would be diverted at Irugur, via Podanur, without touching Coimbatore Junction and Coimbatore North Station. Passengers bound for these stations would have to disembark at Podanur.

The train numbers are: 3351 (Dhanbad-Alleppey), 6867 (Tiruchi-Mangalore), 7030 (Hyderabad-Ernakulam), 7028 (Hyderabad-Thiruvananthapuram), 5012 (Gorakhpur-Thiruvananthapuram), 5222 (Baroni-Ernakulam), 6327 (Bilaspur-Thiruvananthapuram), 6325 (Indore-Thiruvananthapuram).

In the opposite direction, the following trains would be diverted at Podanur, via Irugur, skipping Coimbatore Junction and Coimbatore North: 3352 (Alleppey-Dhanbad), 6868 (Mangalore-Tiruchi).

These apart, the following trains: Jan Shatabdi (Coimbatore-Thanjavur) would be terminated at Coimbatore North. (Until the work is completed, this train would terminate at and depart from Coimbatore North, and not Coimbatore Junction.)

The passenger service between Coimbatore and Mettupalayam (train no.655/656) would also be terminated at Coimbatore North.
