Five injured in accident

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM. Jan 25. Five persons were injured when the Maruti van in which they were travelling collided with an Ambassador car at Azhakulam in the Kovalam Police Station limits this evening. The police said the Ambassador car was speeding towards Kovalam after hitting a nine-year-old boy, Hamsa, near the lighthouse at Vizhinjam. The van driver, Antony (45) sustained multiple fractures in both legs, his son Navin sustained fractures in left leg. The five were returning after visiting the Kovalam beach, police said. Naser and Pradeep who were in the Ambassador car have been taken into custody, police added.

Conference

The 23rd annual conference of the Kerala Orthopaedic Association got underway at Kovalam today. The Director of Medical Education, M. R. Chandran, inaugurated the conference. A panel discussion was also held this evening, as part of the conference.

Contest

The Russian Cultural Centre would organise a painting competition for school and college students as part of the ongoing Roerich centenary celebrations. Camps would be held in the Roerich gallery each month, from January to October. The camps aim to give structured training in painting to talented children.
