Woman arrested on charge of killing fiance

BANGALORE, JAN. 25. The Vivekanagar police have solved the murder of B.V. Girish, a software engineer, with the arrest of his fiancee, Shubha (20), a third year LL.B., student.

It is said that Shubha allegedly had hatched a conspiracy to murder Girish as she did not want to marry him. She wanted to marry another man, Arun Varma (23), who has also been arrested for allegedly assaulting Girish.

Mystery shrouded the death of Girish. Shubha had alleged that she and Girish, who were riding a two-wheeler, had stopped on Intermediary Ring Road on December 3.

She had claimed that she went atop a hillock to watch the landing of aircraft and had found Girish lying in a pool of blood when she returned to the spot. She had said that she had shifted him to a hospital herself.

It is said that Subha wanted to marry Varma but was engaged to Girish on November 30. She had refrained from revealing her affair with Varma at that time. She and her paramour allegedly hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Girish.

On December 3, Girish was assaulted with iron rods allegedly by Varma, his relative, Dinesh (28), and Venkatesh (19). All the three and Shubha have been arrested.

Chain snatched: A man allegedly snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 10,000 from Ameenabai (64) while she was going to a temple on Obaiah Road at Akkipet in Cottonpet Police Station limits on Sunday morning.

Sandalwood seized: Nandini Layout police arrested four persons while they were allegedly transporting sandalwood logs on Saturday. Police said the accused, hailing from Chinnamari in Madanapalli taluk of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh, were transporting 12 tonnes of sandalwood, worth Rs. eight lakh on Saturday. They were waiting with the sandalwood stocked in gunny bags on Ring Road near Koolinagar in Nandini Layout Police Station limits when the police swooped on them following tip off. The names of the arrested were given as B. Venkataram (35), R. Vekataram (36), Siddappa (30), and P. Venkataram (38).

Robbery bid: Upparpet Police arrested six persons who were allegedly conspiring to commit robbery near the old Central Jail on Thursday. The police recovered cash and jewellery worth Rs. 75,000 and some lethal weapons from them.

The names of the arrested were given as Mustaq (28), Manjunath (19), Aslam (30), Islam (40), Fareed (25), and Pavankuumar Ghar (30).
