`Thank god hailstorm hit us in the evening'

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JAN. 25. Even as 15 persons sustained minor injuries in the collapse of several huts and houses at Shastrinagar in Tukaramgate and Addagutta, locals heaved a sigh of a relief saying there were no casualties.

"Thank god the hailstorm hit us in the evening. Had it struck during midnight, several of us would have been killed in sleep," observed Sagar, a telephone booth operator. Pointing out to the power failure, which was not restored till late into the night, residents said chaos would have prevailed in the absence of power had the mishap occurred in the night.

"Most of us came out as strong winds began go blow and took shelter beneath concrete structures which saved us from getting injured," a housewife, Susheela, remarked. The hailstorm left 40 huts and 20 houses totally damaged at Shastrinagar and scores of huts at Addagutta.
