HYDERABAD, JAN. 25. Heavy gales and rain disrupted power supply in several parts of the twin cities on Sunday, especially from late in the afternoon towards the evening. Complaints poured in from the areas of Nacharam, Tarnaka, Addagutta, Mahendra Hills, R.K. Puram, Banjara Hills, Panjagutta, Khairatabad, Somajiguda and Begumpet. "As I was sitting down to study at 6 p.m., power went off. Repeated calls to the fuse-off call office yielded only one reply - power will be restored soon," Gayatri, an Intermediate junior student of Secunderabad, said. An official spokesman of the Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Company Limited (APCPDCL) said 60 of the 417 feeders in the twin cities had been affected. Special teams, comprising 200 engineers, were said to have restored supply to 45 feeders by 7.15 p.m. and working to clear the rest. Falling tree branches on 11 kv and low tension lines in dozens of areas created havoc. The Chairman and Managing Director, APCPDCL, Dinesh Kumar, visited Shakti Nagar, Lalapet, Dutta Nagar, Mahendra Hills and Gymkhana Grounds and supervised restoration works.
