VKN cremated

THIRUVILLWAMALA, JAN. 26. People from various walks of life today bid a solemn adieu to the towering personality of Malayalam literature, VKN, who died at his residence in Thiruvilwamala last night.

The last rites were performed at the public crematorium of the Thiruvilwamala panchayat at Pambadi on the banks of the Bharathappuzha. Prominent writers, including Sara Joseph, Vysakhan, C.V. Sreeraman, K.P.Raman Unni, Mundoor Krishnankutty and Mundoor Sethumadhavan, the Sahithya Akademi secretary, P.V. Krishnan Nair, the Kalamandalam secretary, Balachandran Vadakkedath, the former Kalamandalam secretary, Kalpetta Balakrishnan, the film director, Lohithadas, the political leaders, K. Radhakrishnan, MLA, and the Congress(S) leader, Ramachandran Kadannappilly, were among those who were present on the occasion.

The young writers, Asokan Cheruvil, Ashtamurthy, E. Rajan, P. A. Divakaran, K. Raghunath and Vijayakumar Kunissery, were also present.

A condolence meeting was also held at the school here after the funeral.
