Uphold secular values: Thomas

By Our Staff Reporter

THRISSUR, JAN. 26. Various functions were held on Monday in different parts of the district to celebrate the Republic Day. The Tourism Minister, K. V. Thomas, unfurled the national tricolour on the Thekkindan grounds here.

The Minister took the salute at the ceremonial parade, in which the Kerala Armed Police (KAP), District Armed Reserve and the local police participated.

The march past, accompanied by a lively music played by the KAP band, also featured cadets from the St. Thomas College, St. Aloysius College, Elthuruthu, Government Polytechnic, Nedupuzha, Sree Kerala Varma College, Vimala College, Ramavarmapuram, Government Model Boys High School and the SRKGV High School.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister urged the people to dedicate themselves to fostering democratic and secular values. "Social and economic development should take priority over other issues. We should identify the dark forces that divide us in the name of caste and colour. The country faces a host of challenges. War is not the answer to some of these.

We should strive to solve the problems through peaceful means,'' he said.

Among those present on the occasion were Therambil Ramakrishnan, MLA, and the Collector, V. M. Gopala Menon.
