KOCHI, JAN. 26. The Minister for Welfare of SC/ST and Backward Communities, M.A. Kuttappan, received the salute of police personnel, at the official Republic Day celebrations organised at the Maharaja's College grounds here. The Acting Chief Justice of Kerala High Court, N.K. Sodhi, hoisted the National Flag and delivered the Republic Day message at a function organised on the High Court premises. All judges of the Kerala High Court, the Advocate General, M. Ratna Singh, the Additional Advocate General, Rajan Joseph, the High Court Advocates' Association president, K. Ramkumar, judicial officers of the district, lawyers and staff of the High Court were present. The function was followed by a cultural programme. The Kochi Mayor, C.M. Dinesh Mani, hoisted the National Flag at the main office and the Deputy Mayor, A.V. George, hoisted the flag at Mattanchery regional office, to mark the celebrations of the Corporation. The Director of Kochi Refineries Limited (KRL), M.A. Mohammed Ali, was the chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations at KRL. Awards for employees who had completed 25 years were distributed after the march past. Pageantry and cultural competitions for family members of employees were also organised. The KRL staff, who are members of the national volleyball team, and Chander Singh, former national coach, were felicitated on the occasion. The Central Administrative Tribunal celebrated the day with its vice-chairman, A.V. Haridasan, hoisting the national tricolour. The staff members sang patriotic songs. The Southern Naval Command celebrated Republic Day with a variety of functions. The Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Vice-Admiral Yeshwant Prasad, laid a wreath at the War Memorial. He, later, inspected a guard of honour and reviewed the parade staged by six armed platoons, 27 unarmed platoons and a platoon each of Army jawans, DSC and Sea Cadet Corps. Admiral Prasad gave away the Chief of Naval Staff's awards to officers and sailors and defence civilians for their dedication, professional competence, honesty and integrity. He also gave away the cash awards for innovative skills of the personnel. Rear Amiral P. Kaushiva, Chief of Staff, and Rear Admiral I.K. Saluja, Flag Officer Sea Training, were also present on the occasion.
