THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 27. Representatives of all the major political parties in the State would observe a day-long fast in Kasaragod on January 30 as part of efforts to restore normality in the trouble-torn parts of the district, the Chief Minister, A. K. Antony, said in the Assembly today. The fast would be followed by house visits, particularly in the violence-hit Ariyal locality of the district, as decided at the all-party meeting held the other day, the Chief Minister said while opposing a motion seeking adjournment of the House to discuss the tense situation prevailing in the area. Mr. Antony said the police had been told to be firm with anyone taking law into their hands and claimed that the police had succeeded in prevent the spread of violence by handling the situation efficiently. Major political parties had also provided all assistance to the administration in its effort to contain violence, he added.
