By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JAN. 27. Film actress of `Ose Ramulamma' fame, Vijayashanti, is likely to enter the poll fray in the coming elections.

The `Lady Amitabh', as she is popularly known in the Telugu tinsel world, who charmed people of Telangana with the film, has staked her claim for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket to contest from the region.

She made a formal request in this regard to the BJP president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, when she met him during lunch at the strategy meeting he had with the State units of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry in Chennai on Monday.

The option of Ms. Vijayashanti contesting Assembly or Parliament elections was still open, the State BJP spokesman, S.V. Seshagiri Rao, told reporters here on Tuesday. He added that Mr. Naidu had promised to consider her request.

Ms. Vijayashanti, who was born in Warangal, was said to be keen on contesting from the district. A staunch protagonist of Telangana, she is also the all-India vice-president of the BJP Mahila Morcha.
