Need for more EVMs to figure at CEOs' meet
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD,
JAN. 27.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) will meet the Election Commission authorities in New Delhi on February 4 during a meeting of CEOs of all States. The requirement of 70,000 more electronic voting machines (EVMs) if the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls are held simultaneously, the need for sufficient Central paramilitary forces, law and order situation in the State in the face of naxalite activity, and the final list of electoral rolls are some of the issues likely to figure at the discussions.
The CEO, M. Narayana Rao, speaking to reporters here today, ruled out relaxation of rules to enable the `rejected applicants' and deleted voters to file the appeals at mandal level bypassing the Collector.
