GAYA, JAN 27. Two persons were arrested today in connection with the killing of two activists of the NGO, IRA, at village Shabdo in Bihar's extremist-hit Gaya district. Police Superintendent Sanjay Singh said raids were still on in different areas to arrest others involved in the killings of Sarita and Mahesh Kant, convenor and co-convenor of the NGO, working for the revival of cooperative farming, women empowerment and village self-dependence. The Government had yesterday decided to hand over to the CBI a probe into the killings of the NGO activists. The activists had been killed by unidentified assailants on Saturday last. Meanwhile, the dawn-to-dusk bandh in Gaya and Jehanabad districts, called by the CPI-ML (Liberation) to protest the killings, today evoked a mixed response with no untoward incident reported so far. A large number of shops and business establishments remained closed in Gaya and Jehanabad towns as the CPI-ML (L) supporters brought out processions in different areas to enforce the bandh. Vehicular traffic too was thin. Colleges of the Magadh University in Gaya and Jehanabad towns remained closed. Private bus operators suspended their services. Attendance in the offices of the state and central governments was normal, official sources said. The naxal outfit has called the bandh to protest the killings and also for deteriorating law and order situation in the state. The party has demanded immediate arrest of the killers of Sarita and Mahesh Kant. Heavily-armed assailants intercepted their motorcycle at Jamaita village while they were going to their camp office at Fatehpur in Gaya district and pumped bullets into their bodies killing them on the spot. -- PTI
