BIJAPUR, JAN. 27. The Congress today lost control over the Bijapur Zilla Panchayat as a majority of its members, including the President, Anitha Pandre, resigned from the party in support of the former MP, M.B. Patil, who resigned on Sunday. The Congress also lost control of the Indi Taluk Panchayat when 16 of the 21 members, including the President, Annappagouda Biradar, and the Vice-President, Mallanna Sakri, resigned from the party. In the 32-member zilla panchayat, the Congress had 31 seats. But its strength was reduced to 15 after some of its members resigned from the party. Yashwantaraygouda Patil, Basavaraj Desai, and Chandrashekar Teli, former presidents of the zilla panchayat, Mallanna Sali, Rukmini Lamani, Shrimanth Angadi, Sujatha Dundappa, Ramesh Boosanur, Babusahukar Shivagondappa Metri, Neelamma Naikodi, B.M. Kore, Sunanda Giddappagol, Shanthabai Bilagi, Chennavva Kokatnur, Kalappa Bellundagi, and Sunitha Honwad, members, resigned from the party. The former Chairman of the Bijapur Urban Development Authority and KPCC member, S.H. Lagali, the KPCC member, K.C. Patil, Ballolli and Loni block Congress presidents and office-bearers, two nominated directors of the DCC Bank, and many gram panchayat members also resigned from the party today.
