BELTHANGADY, JAN. 27. A woman and her two children, who reportedly were on a pilgrimage to Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala in the taluk on Sunday, were drowned in the Netravati. The incident occurred at the bathing ghats on the river. The police said the victims were Dakshyayiniamma (30), Ranjith (9), and Praveen (6). They were from Hulkadi in Tiptur taluk of Tumkur district. The bodies were recovered only on Monday as this section of the river is known for whirlpools. The police suspect that the three had come to the area without informing their relatives. It is only when Suresh, husband of the woman, and others came in search of them that they were identified. Warning signs about the presence of whirlpools had been displayed at the accident spot, police said.
