BANGALORE, JAN. 27. A 30-year-old man allegedly took away Rs. 52,000 from the cashier of a private lorry transport office in Jali Mohalla Road on Tuesday. Police said Paramesh, cashier with the Rayalaseema Transport Corporation, was taking Rs. 70,000 to his company's Upparpet office when James snatched the cash bag from him, pocketed the money and ran away. It is said that Paramesh knew James, who lived in a house close to the transport office. Cottonpet police are on look out for the accused. Sandalwood tree cut: Thieves, who cut a sandalwood tree in the compound of a private house in Malleswaram, ran away when the police arrived on the scene last night. The police said the thieves managed cut a sandalwood tree in the house of Kanlikumar on 6th Cross, when the family was asleep. Mr. Kanilkumar and others woke up when the tree fell with a thud. They then called the Malleswaram police. The thieves fled when the police arrived, abandoning the sandalwood logs. Cash, jewellery stolen: Cash and jewellery, all worth Rs. one lakh, were stolen from the house of Wing Commander S. Mitra, a retired Indian Air Force officer, at Hosakerehalli in Girininagar Police Station limits on Monday when the family members were away. The wing commander had gone to the office of a private firm, where he worked as an accountant, while his wife and children were away in Chennai. He has lodged a complaint with the police. Bank robbery bid: Robbers tried to break into the Kengeri branch of the Bharath Cooperative bank on Sunday night. Police said the manager of the bank found that the grills of a window had been removed when the bank was opened for transaction on Tuesday. He has lodged a complaint with the police. Chain snatchers arrested: Jayanagar police arrested two youth and recovered gold ornaments, mobile phones and five two-wheelers, all worth Rs. 3.5 lakh. They were wanted in 32 cases. The accused, Selva, alias Selvam (24) and Arunkumar (21), both of Domlur, allegedly went around on stolen vehicles and snatched gold chains from women. Police arrested them with the help of residents in Jayangar 5th Block when the accused tried to snatch a chain from a woman on Sunday. Two-wheelers recovered: Banaswadi police arrested Sarvar Khan (25) of 4th Cross, Anjaneya Devasthana Street, Yehswnathpur, and recovered five two-wheelers worth Rs. 1.2 lakh. He had allegedly stolen them from Frazer Town, D.J. Halli, Sadashivanagar, and J.C. Nagar Police Station limits. He was arrested while he was trying to sell a stolen motorcycle in Lingarajpuram, police said. It is said that he was addicted to brown sugar and used the money to buy it. In a crackdown on two-wheeler lifters, Ulsoor police arrested Manjunath (22) of Sarjapur Moogalur and recovered eight two-wheelers, including five scooters and two mopeds and a motorcycle. Body found: Cottonpet police recovered the body of a 45-year-old man on a road in N.P. Lane. They said the man seemed to have had his leg amputated and used Jaipur foot.
