MADURAI, JAN. 27. A housewife attempted to commit suicide at T. Kallupatti near here today, after a three-member gang used "filthy" words to "tease" her. The victim's husband also sustained serious burns when he tried to rescue her. The police said Rajakani (29) was alone when the accused barged into her house and passed some "objectionable" comments. Unable to bear the insult, Rajakani set herself ablaze with kerosene. On seeing the smoke emanating from the house, her husband, Bhoopathy (34), who was standing at a nearby shop, rushed to her rescue. While Rajakani sustained 100 per cent burns, Bhoopathy was said to be out of danger with 45 per cent burns in the Government Rajaji Hospital. A special team, led by the T. Kallupatti Inspector, P. Pandi, has been formed to nab the accused.
