HYDERABAD, JAN. 27. A statement purportedly issued by the People's War (PW) holding the former president of the A.P. Civil Liberties Committee (APCLC), Laxman, responsible for the recent killing of its three leaders created confusion here on Tuesday with Mr. Laxman terming the letter as ``yet other ploy by the police to malign the civil liberties organisation.'' Copies of the letter signed by the PW State Committee secretary, Ramakrishna, reached some regional newspaper offices and television channels here this evening. It was alleged in the letter that Dr. Laxman, who was earlier allegedly kidnapped and subsequently released by the police, colluded with the police and tried to sabotage the revolutionary movement. It was also charged that Dr. Laxman tipped off the police about the movements of the slain naxals -- Balija Rammohan Rao, Kuruva Shivanand and Vangara Rammohan Reddy -- and was thus responsible for their death. The PW statement called for a State-wide bandh on February 6 in protest against the killings. However, the APCLC leaders -- Dr. Laxman and Sheshaiah -- condemned the allegations. Speaking to reporters here, they maintained that the letter was a "big farce" and they had no involvement whatsoever in the killing of naxals. ``The police are trying in vain to create a rift between people and the APCLC by resorting to false propaganda,'' they charged.
