THIRUVANANTHAPURAM. Jan. 28. The Government would take necessary action to ensure AICTE recognition for the Government engineering colleges at Wayanad and Idukki. The final semester students in these colleges would be allowed to write their examinations in other colleges this academic year, as there was a delay in getting the recognition due to lack of infrastructural facilities in these colleges. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by the Education Minister, Nalakath Soopy, today Students of the engineering college at Wayanad would be allowed to write their examinations at the Government Engineering College, Kannur, while those at the Idukki college at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Kottayam. The construction of the requisite infrastructure facilities at these colleges was being undertaken on a war footing. Vacant posts in the teaching and non-teaching categories would be filled up immediately. The construction of a semi-permanent building with eight classrooms at Thalappuzha would be completed by March 31 for the engineering college at Wayanad, which is currently functioning at the Arts and Science College, Mananthavadi. As a temporary measure, 1,500 sq m space at the Arts and Science College would be handed over to the engineering college. The MLAs, Radha Raghavan, K. K. Ramchandran Master, N. D. Appachan, C. Mammooty, Roshi Augustin and the principal secretary, higher education, K. Mohandas, among others attended the meeting.
