ANANTAPUR, JAN. 28. The TDP president and Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, received a tremendous response from people gathered from all over the district to attend the party's praja sadassu here today. People in large numbers cheered him all along the 2-km route through which the party rally was taken out from the helipad to the meeting venue. He got into a mini-lorry along with party leaders of the district immediately after his arrival from Cuddapah at around 2.30 pm. A huge crowd gathered outside the helipad as it is surrounded by vacant land on three sides. He was cheered all along the rally route. Mr. Naidu responded in his typical manner - flashing the V-sign. The police failed to control the crowd. The rally reached the meeting venue around 4.15 p.m. and the speeches of State and district leaders of the party continued for an hour. They flayed the "opportunistic politics'' of the Congress and hailed the development achieved under the TDP regime. Mr. Naidu spoke exactly for an hour from 5.15 pm. He repeatedly thanked the women and youth attended the meeting in large number. The entire Arts College grounds, where the meeting was held, was full and people who could not gain entry stood outside. The bandh call given by the People's War and its call to people and party leaders to stay away from the meeting had failed to evoke any response. People from all over the district, including the naxalite-affected areas, gathered for the meeting. Shops, business establishments, education institutions, cinema halls, banks and Central Government offices remained closed in response to the police directive to do so.
