Gulbarga
GULBARGA, JAN. 28. The State Secretariat of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has said that the agreement between the State Government and a few cement companies for the construction of three barrages across the Kagina and the Kamalavathi was a sell-out to the private companies. He termed the agreement privatisation of water sources. Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Maruti Manpade, State Secretariat member, said the Government should reverse its decision allowing the companies to construct the barrages in the larger interests of the State and the farmers of the region. The Government had abdicated its responsibility of constructing irrigation projects under schemes `A' and `B' of the Bachawat Tribunal Award. Mr. Manpade said under scheme `A', two tmcft. of water in the Kagina had been allocated for the State. Another 10 tmcft. was allocated under scheme `B'. The Government had unfortunately not taken up any irrigation project in the river.
