Foundation of hospital laid

NEW DELHI JAN. 28. The Army has proposed to establish a medical college attached to Army Hospital (R and R) and Base Hospital, Delhi Cantonment. The foundation stone of the proposed hospital was laid by the Defence Minister, George Fernandes, in Base Hospital in the presence of the Chief of Army Staff, General N. C. Vij, on Wednesday.

TB health visitors course

NEW DELHI JAN. 28. A nine-month TB Health Visitors course commencing on July 1 this year will be organised by the Tuberculosis Association of India at the New Delhi TB Centre. The minimum qualification for this course is 10+2 with Science (Biology group) and the maximum age limit is 28 years as on July 1.

The decision of the selection committee would be final, said a press release issued by the TB Association of India. Applications for admission to this course should reach the Secretary-General, TB Association of India, 3, Red Cross Road on or before April 30, 2004.

Office-bearers elected

NEW DELHI JAN. 28. The newly-elected Executive Committee members of the Paper Merchants' Association, Delhi, have elected the following office-bearers for the year 2003-2004:

President: Shanti Kumar Jain; Vice-Presidents: Rajender Kumar Jain and Ajay Gupta; General Secretary: Himmatramka Rajiv; Secretary: Jinender Kumar Jain; and Treasurer: Ramesh Chand Jain.

`Facelift for MCD schools'

NEW DELHI JAN. 28. The Union Minister of State and Member of Parliament from Chandni Chowk here, Vijay Goel, has said that the maximum number of Municipal Corporation of Delhi-run primary schools in the city will get a facelift under his "School Sudhar Yojana''.

Dedicating the 12th renovated primary school at Rana Pratap Bagh to the students on Wednesday, Mr. Goel said it has been provided with desks, chairs, swings, toys, blackboards and ceiling fans besides a new look with paint.

Mr. Goel exhorted parents to render active co-operation in speeding up the Yojana and make their children best citizens.

Artistes meet Shekhawat

NEW DELHI JAN. 28. Tableaux artistes participating in the Republic Day Parade here called on the Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, today and performed their respective folk dances at his residence.

The performances included Vande Mataram by the Rural Development tableux, Theyyam by Kerala and Rajasthan folk by Health and Family Welfare while Goa performed Kajra and Jammu and Kashmir Deku among others, with Mr. Shekhawat later meeting the folk dancers.

Govt. to launch sports policy

NEW DELHI JAN. 28. To encourage games among the Capital's youth, the Delhi Government would soon be launching its sports policy.

Announcing this today, the Delhi Minister for Education, Sports and Tourism, Arvinder Singh Lovely, said the Government was committed to making it mandatory for all schools and colleges to make at least six teams of various games for participating in various events at the district, State and national level.

Speaking at the annual sports day function of Maharaja Agrasen College at its new site of Vasundhara Enclave, Dallupura, the Minister further said that mini stadiums would be constructed for various sports in different parts of the city so that children of different age groups can avail of facilities and promote the spirit of sports among them.

Pond ash for road project

NEW DELHI JAN. 28. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to utilise about 67 lakh cu.m. pond ash from the National Thermal Power Corporation's Unchahar power station in the construction of the upcoming Allahabad by-pass road. This by-pass, which is part of the Prime Minister's Golden Quadrilateral Programme, is 45 km from NTPC's Unchahar plant in Rae Bareli district of Uttar Pradesh.
