Get ready for simultaneous polls, Naidu tells MPs

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, JAN. 28. The Telugu Desam supremo, N.Chandrababu Naidu, has asked his party MPs to be battle-trim and gear up for simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and the State Assembly.

Mr. Naidu was addressing the last meeting of the Telugu Desam members of the thirteenth Lok Sabha here on Wednesday. The meeting was also attended by some members of the Rajya Sabha. He urged them to strive collectively for greater electoral success than that was achieved in the last elections and appreciated the good work done by the TDP Parliamentary party in highlighting various issues pertaining to the State during the last four-and-half-years in Parliament.

Referring to the impending dissolution of the Lok Sabha, he told the MPs to make every effort in the next few days to expedite clearances for pending irrigation and developmental projects, besides seeking Central assistance for taking up drought and cyclone relief works, Telugu Desam Party MPs, R.Chandrasekhara Reddy and K.Yerran Naidu, and others told reporters later.

Mr. Chandrababu Naidu also informed them about the efforts being made by the State Government to bring Formula One car racing to Hyderabad.

The TDP supremo expressed confidence that the NDA coalition partners at the Centre and the TDP in the State would return to power. He had a dig at the political gimmicks being indulged in some parties in the State, which were trying to have an alliance with separatist forces.

He asked the MPs to work for the success of various party programmes in the run-up to the elections - from district-level meetings to the party's public rally, Vijayabheri, to be held here in February. Meanwhile, the TDP's extended general body meeting, which was scheduled for February 5, has been put off by a day and would be held on February 6.

Mr. Naidu also referred to the request made by him to his Karnataka counterpart, S.M. Krishna seeking 20 tmcft for providing drinking water and said that the Karnataka Government had promised to consider the issue during its next Cabinet meeting on January 30.

He said he had made a suggestion to Suresh Prabhu, the Chairman of the Task Force on the project for interlinking of rivers, that the Inchampalli and Polavaram projects be included in that scheme.
