Karaikal wins football title

MADURAI, JAN. 28. Karaikal claimed the football title defeating Coimbatore 3-2 via tie-breaker in the final in the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University inter-Agriculture Collegiate games meet at the Agricultural College ground here on Wednesday. At the regulation time the teams were locked goalless.

Mitesh Balan, Ajilesh, Saravanan scored for Karaikal and Vinod Kumar and Shelton scored for Coimbatore.

Earlier in the semifinals, Coimbatore beat Madurai 3-2 via Tie Breaker and Karaikal trounced Killikulam 6-0.

Cricket: The scores (semifinals): Madurai 135 in 20 overs (Jeyaraman 32, Vijayakumar three for 24) bt Tiruchi 103 in 18.4 overs (Srinivasan three for 19, Madankumar three for 16).

Mettupalayam 134 in 20 overs (Mohanraj 63, Thangaraj four for 26) bt Killikulam 116 in 19.4 overs (Vikram five for 16).

Volleyball: Women's final: Periakulam bt Coimbatore 18-25, 25-23, 25-18. Semifinals: Periakulam bt Madurai 25-14, 25-13. Coimbatore bt Karaikal 25-9, 25-6.
