NEW DELHI, JAN. 28. A 47-year-old Delhi Police head constable allegedly hanged himself to death from a tree at Kanjhawla in North-West Delhi today. The deceased was described by the police authorities as an alcoholic who had made several failed attempts to quit drinking. Head Constable Om Prakash was posted with the District Lines at Rajouri Garden and lived in a village under the jurisdiction of the Kanjhawla police station. Around 7 a.m., he left home on the pretext of some work and allegedly committed suicide. A passerby noticed his body hanging from the tree in the afternoon, following which he called the police. No suicide note has been found yet. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, North-West Delhi, Sanjay Singh, Om Prakash was a habitual drinker and was passing through a phase of depression as he could not quit drinking. The local police have initiated inquest proceedings into the matter. In another incident reported this past Sunday, a 52-year-old Sub-Inspector of the Delhi police had allegedly shot himself dead with his service revolver in the Old Police Lines barracks of North Delhi. SI Balbir Yadav was a resident of Rewari in Haryana and was posted with the O.P.L. Branch. He was alone in the barrack when he allegedly shot himself in the right temple. Inquest inquiries into the case are still on.
