NEW DELHI, JAN. 28. Krishan Kant Paul, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police, will take over as Police Commissioner on January 31. An order to this effect was issued by the Under Secretary to the Government of India today. According to the order (No. 14020/1/2004-UTS 1st), Dr. Paul has been promoted to the grade of Director-General of Police (DGP) with a pay scale of Rs. 24,050-26,000, with effect from January 31 afternoon, replacing the present incumbent, Radhey Shyam Gupta. An Indian Police Services (IPS) officer of the 1970 batch from the Union Territory cadre, Dr. Paul is known for an unblemished track record and integrity. Over the years he has been entrusted with important posts of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Delhi, and the Crime Branch. Dr. Paul also worked with the Intelligence Bureau for three years. It was under his tenure as Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, that the Department cracked the sensational match-fixing racket involving South African skipper Hansie Cronje and other well-known cricketers.
