Two killed as car rams cyclists

NEW DELHI, JAN. 28. Seven people, including two cyclists, were injured when a rashly driven Santro car hit them and then rammed into a stationary truck near Tara Apartment at Ambedkar Nagar this morning. The cyclists later succumbed to injuries at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

According to the police, the Santro first hit the two cyclists and then the five pedestrians before ramming into the truck. The car driver, Anil Nair, who is a resident of Kalkaji, also sustained injuries.

All the injured were taken to AIIMS where the cyclists died this evening. While they are yet to be identified, the pedestrians have been identified as Murlidhar Misra, a resident of Sangam Vihar, Avinat, Foolgan, Ramesh and Bir Bahadur, all residents of DDA Flats Kalkaji.

A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered at Ambedkar Nagar police station and the police are now waiting for Anil to be discharged. They are yet to record the statements of all the victims.

In another incident, a speeding tractor ran over a girl, Nasreen, daughter of Nasim, outside her house at Sangam Vihar this morning. Nasreen sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Modi Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.

The police have registered a case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving and arrested the erring driver, Satish. Further investigations are on.

Earlier on Sunday, two pedestrians were killed after a speeding Toyota Qualis ran over them near Humanyun Tomb. One of the deceased was handicapped. The police have not yet been able to trace the Qualis in question.
