DINDIGUL, JAN.29. Internet banking facility will be introduced in the main branch of the State Bank of India here in February. Talking to media persons here today, the SBI Assistant General Manager, P. Thiruvengadam, said special thrust had been given on automation. CORAL banking a sophisticated system, enabling customers to operate their account from their office itself and giving direction to bank for transaction were also on the cards. The bank had already provided remote login facility to all its major business clients in the town to enable them to view their balance and transactions from their office itself. With the introduction of a single window system, major business requirements were taken care of at one place. All transactions could be done in any one of the counters available in the branch. The performance of the bank during last year was encouraging. While the total business catapulted to Rs.170 crores as on December 2003 from Rs.98 crores in March 2003, advances had gone up by Rs.70 crores owing to an extensive financial assistance to textile industries. About Rs.40 crores were given as term finance for setting up of windmills. Growth in personal segment, including housing, education and personal loans, was Rs.4 crores up to December 2003. With wide customer base and extensive lending facility, Non-Performing Assets of the bank was pegged below 3 per cent. Anytime anywhere cash facility had already been provided by the ATM of this branch. Two thousand ATM cards had been issued so far. The new Assistant General Manager, K. Sundara Raman, said the SBI would start a separate corporate branch with different ambience. Corporate clients, having business transactions of more than Rs.25 lakhs, would be linked to the proposed corporate branch. The SBI was also planning to create a standard ambience for all its branches. Later, the out-going AGM, Mr. Thiruvengadam, handed over the charge to the new Assistant General Manager, K. Sundara Raman.
