MADURAI, JAN.29. Ethanol-blended petrol is set to hit bunks in the State by February-end, according to the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) General Manager (Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry), C. Ramachandran. Talking to presspersons here, he said the `green fuel', which had already been introduced in nine States, was awaiting certain administrative clearance from the State Government. Allaying fear that the fuel was harmful to automobile engines, he said only 5 per cent of ethanol was mixed with the normal petrol and pointed out that the ethanol content in Brazil was around 30 per cent. Mr. Ramachandran said a total of 24 auto-LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) stations would come up before June. The State Government had shown keen interest in promoting it. Stating that IOC was gearing up to face a stiff competition from private companies in retail sale of petroleum products, he said, "More thrust was given on customer service". Under its ambitious `Vision Excellence' programme, retail outlets were being upgraded, services improved and continuous training programmes of officials and staff of outlets were offered. On the improvement of Indane Star Distributors scheme, he said efforts were made to upgrade select LPG distributors, which would function from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and delivery of refills done on all seven days a week, at customers' convenient time. Refills booked up to 2 p.m. would be delivered the same day. Deliverymen would carry portable weighing scale and leak detectors for complete check-up for weight and leakage.
