DAVANGERE, JAN. 29. A large number of patients were put to hardship when doctors at the JJM Medical College, Bapuji Child Health Institute, and Bapuji Dental College began their indefinite strike on Thursday. They were protesting against the demand of the management to sign a bond, which included a clause banning private practice. The doctors attended to only emergency cases. Several patients, who had come from far-off villages, had return home without treatment. The doctors said the management had asked them to sign a declaration stating that they would seek the permission of the management if they wanted to open or join private clinics. The doctors termed this illegal. They alleged that the management had not sanctioned them even leave without salary to attend conferences and meetings. The doctors said that the Principal and the Superintendent of the College had been acting in an autocratic manner.
