Shimoga
By Our Special Correspondent
SHIMOGA, JAN. 29. Timber merchants and saw mill owners staged a demonstration here on Thursday to protest against the alleged harassment meted out to them by the staff of the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) while collecting market cess. They also demanded that the criminal cases filed against them be withdrawn. The protesters, who boycotted the timber auction conducted by the Forest Department at the timber yard at Alkola, complained that though they had been brought under the purview of the APMC Act, several facilities had not been extended to them.
