THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 29. The power generation from hydro-electric projects will go up by 200 MW within the next two years, the Electricity Minister, Kadavoor Sivadasan, has said. Replying to questions of Roshy Augustine, Thomas Chazhikadan and K. Narayana Kurup on the floor of the Assembly today, Mr. Sivadasan said that power can be distributed for Rs. 2 to Rs. 2.50 per unit on enhancing the capacity of the thermal plant at Kayamkulam. The augmentation of the Kuttiyadi hydro-electric project which is to be completed by May 2007, is expected to cost Rs. 168.28 crores. The project would generate 100 MW more, Mr. Sivadasan said.
Barter system
The Minister for the welfare of Backward and Scheduled Communities, M. A. Kuttappan, in reply to the questions of K. K. Jayachandran, V. K. Chandran, M. V. Jayarajan and K. Radhakrishnan said that the Government is planning to introduce barter system to supply rice to tribals.

The Health Minister, P. Sankaran, said in a written reply that the Government has plans to create 375 posts in specialists cadre in administration, medicine, gynaecology, surgery, anaesthesia, paediatrics, ophthalmology, ENT, psychiatry, orthopaedics, dermatology, radiology, radiotherapy, cardiology, urology and respiratory medicine.
Kappad beach
Prof. Thomas said in a written reply to V.Chenthamarakshan that the Government had decided to lease out the Kappad beach resort in Kozhikode to the Renaissance group based in Kochi. The Department of Tourism is processing the details of the lease agreement. There has been a 25 per cent increase in tourist arrivals till November 2003. The income on this score is Rs. 820 crores, he said.
