Top leaders of 3 militant groups killed

SRINAGAR, JAN. 30. In a major breakthrough, the Army today wiped out the top leadership of three militant organisations in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Brig A.K.Gupta, Brigadier-General Staff at the 15 Corps headquarters here, said 10 militants and a civilian were killed in two encounters. After receiving information that the top leadership of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, the Harkat-ul-Jehadi-e-Islami and the Al-Badr were meeting at two places in Rafiabad (Baramulla) and Sogam in Lolab area of Kupwara the Rashtriya Rifles troops and the J&K police surrounded the area last evening and started flushing out the militants.

Seven militants were killed in Sogam in the house of Abdul Jabbar Lone, who also was killed. Three other militants were killed in the Rafiabad encounter. Among those killed were top commanders, Abu Asgar Khan from Afghanistan and head of the LeT's Fidayeen squad, Abu Zaid (HUJI) and Tamiya and Danish (Al-Badr).
