KOCHI, JAN. 30. A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court today directed G. Rajasekharan, Secretary, Transport Department, and K.P. Somarajan, Transport Commissioner, to ensure that buses and other heavy transport vehicles were fitted with speed governor on or before February 29. Coming down heavily on the officers for their failure to comply with the court's earlier directives in this regard, the Bench comprising the Acting Chief Justice, N.K. Sodhi, and Justice R. Basanth said that it was obvious that they did not seem to be serious about carrying out the directions of the court. The court issued the directions after declining the plea of the officers who were present today before the court for extending the time for implementation of the direction. The court also directed them to file a status report and a compliance report before March 12
Probe into Muthanga incidents
The Bench also issued notice to the State Government and Central Government on a petition seeking a direction for appointment of a retired high court judge as a commission to inquire into the Muthanga incidents. The petition was filed by Nallathampi Thera.
Panchayat's plea adjourned
A Bench of Justice Cyriac Joseph and K. Padmanabhan Nair adjourned to February 3 the hearing on an application filed by the Perumatty gram panchayat seeking the court's permission to put seals on the meters installed by Coca-Cola on its bore-wells and open wells.
