Bid to board flight carrying child's body

KOCHI, JAN. 30. A couple who tried to board an Air-India flight carrying the body of their two-month-old child was detained at the Cochin International Airport, Nedumbassery, early this morning. According to airport sources, the Gujarati couple, Solanki Bhogilal Karshan and Savitha, was not allowed to board flight AI-691 to Mumbai when the security personnel found that the baby was dead. Sources said Ms. Savitha carried the baby on her shoulder after wrapping the child in a large towel. They said the baby had died at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Edapally, on Friday afternoon. The security officials at the airport later sent the child's body to the General Hospital here for embalming. The couple left for Mumbai on a Jet Airways flight in the evening. The embalmed body of the child was sent as cargo.

The Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) organised a national seminar on `Recent Advances in Mariculture' here today. M. Thomas Mathew, Chief Coconut Development Officer, Coconut Development Board, Kochi, inaugurated the seminar.
