ANANTAPUR, JAN. 31. A jeep driver allegedly molested a seven-year-old schoolgirl at Mudigubba in the district last night. He was arrested by the police on a complaint given by the girl's parents. According to the police, the girl, belonging to Sankepalli, was studying in a private school at Mudigubba by staying with her relatives. As she had been to her village a couple of days ago her parents had sent her alone back to Mudigubba last night in a jeep as they knew its driver, Mohd. Rafi (34). When the jeep reached near the microwave tower on the outskirts of Mudigubba, the driver allegedly took the girl into bushes and committed the crime. The girl then went to her relatives who in turn took her to her parents. The parents and relatives then stormed the house of Rafi and beat him up before handing over him to the police. As villagers came to know about the incident, they gathered in front of the police station today and demanded that the police hand over the accused to them so that they taught him a lesson. However, sensing trouble, the police took the accused to court. Students of all schools and colleges in Mudigubba boycotted classes today in protest against the incident. Activists of the TDP, the BJP and the Congress staged a rasta roko seeking stern action against the accused. The girl was sent for medical examination.
